U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona addresses Resolution Agreements for University of Michigan and City University of New York from Office for Civil Rights

Today, U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona released a statement regarding the U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights (OCR) reaching resolution agreements with the University of Michigan and the City University of New York concerning Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

“Hate has no place on our college campuses at any time. Regrettably, a series of troubling incidents has occurred in recent months. This period presents significant challenges for educational communities nationwide. The recent commitments from the University of Michigan and CUNY represent a positive advancement. The Office for Civil Rights at the Department of Education remains committed to ensuring schools adhere to civil rights standards. Investigations into allegations of discrimination or harassment linked to common Jewish heritage and shared Palestinian or Muslim ancestry are ongoing.
