STARKVILLE, Miss.—A renowned global organization is set to award a faculty member and two students from Mississippi State for their exceptional contributions in the field of forest products.
Mostafa Mohammadabadi, an Assistant Professor in MSU’s Department of Sustainable Bioproducts, has been named the recipient of the Wood Engineering Achievement Award by the Forest Products Society. This prestigious organization represents various sectors of the global forest products industry. The recognition was bestowed upon the researcher during the 2024 International Conference Annual Excellence Awards for his groundbreaking work in advancing sustainability and expanding the market for small-diameter trees.
In addition, Suman Pradhan, a doctoral student from Patan, Nepal, secured the second position for the Wood Award and also received the Student Scholarship Award, which highlights exceptional student research. Ethan Turo, a master’s student from Biloxi, clinched the third spot in the poster presentation competition. Both students are part of the sustainable bioproducts department in MSU’s College of Forest Resources.
Expressing his gratitude, Mohammadabadi, who specializes in natural fiber composites and engineered wood products, stated, “Being recognized for my accomplishments is truly an honor and motivates me to continue expanding my research efforts.”
Rubin Shmulsky, the head of MSU’s Department of Sustainable Bioproducts, commended the trio for their accolades. “With participants from across the globe, the Forest Product Society’s International Conference is a platform that attracts scholars and professionals worldwide.
