Greenwood, Indiana native Sadie Morris, majoring in geosciences, is set to benefit from financial support and an internship opportunity with the national weather broadcasting service, along with guidance from FOX Weather meteorologist Jane Minar. Morris marks the third individual to receive these benefits as a result of the longstanding partnership established between the university and the organization in 2021.

“It’s been an immense privilege collaborating with Mississippi State University to foster the next wave of meteorologists, and we are excited to have Sadie as part of our successful program,” stated FOX Weather President Sharri Berg.

During her time at MSU, Morris actively engaged with the university’s National Weather Association and American Meteorological Society student organizations. Holding the position of the 2024 technology committee chair for the Southeast Severe Storms Symposium, Morris previously completed internships at Indianapolis FOX affiliate WXIN-TV and CBS affiliate WTTV-TV. In 2023, she was awarded MSU’s Meteorology Chapter Travel Award in recognition of her dedication to atmospheric science.

Morris is on track to graduate in 2026.

“I am incredibly thankful for the opportunity to be selected as the next recipient of the FOX Weather Scholarship,” Morris expressed. “This chance will enable me to learn from leading professionals in the industry and shape me into the meteorologist I aspire to be.”

The FOX Weather-MSU scholarship is aimed at undergraduates with a proven academic track record of a 3.0 GPA or higher. Previous scholarship recipient Haley Meier transitioned to an on-air meteorologist role at FOX Weather upon her 2023 graduation, while last year’s recipient Mark Kimoto will undertake an internship this summer at the network’s New York base. Meier and Kimoto were mentored by FOX Weather’s Marissa Torres and Craig Herrera, respectively.

FOX Weather, an ad-supported streaming service running 24/7 under FOX News Media, leverages the network’s extensive newsgathering capabilities and resources from TV stations, incorporating a team of 120 meteorologists to offer a comprehensive range of weather-related services.

MSU has solidified its position as a leading institution in broadcast meteorology, having produced the highest number of degree-holding weathercasters nationwide. The exceptional research conducted by MSU’s Department of Geosciences contributed to the university being recognized as a Center of Academic Excellence in Geospatial Sciences by the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency and the U.S. Geological Survey in 2015.
