North Dakota Students Encouraged to Submit FAFSA Applications Before Deadline

North Dakota officials are urging high school students to submit their FAFSA applications amidst a 30% decline in statewide applications to the federal financial aid program compared to last year, according to the Headline.

The North Dakota University System, along with other entities like the Bank of North Dakota and the Department of Public Instruction, have collaborated to support high school seniors in completing their FAFSA applications. A new webpage on the Bank of North Dakota’s website has been created to aid students in this process.

Governor Doug Burgum has declared this week as “Finish the FAFSA Week” to emphasize the importance of completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

The FAFSA serves as a gateway for students to access federal loans, grants, and work-study funds to alleviate college expenses.

In December, the U.S. Department of Education unveiled an updated version of the FAFSA, which was touted to be more user-friendly.

Brenda Zastoupil, director of financial aid for the North Dakota University System, highlighted significant changes to the FAFSA program. Despite challenges in implementation causing delays in processing applications, efforts continue to streamline the process.

A decrease in FAFSA applications nationwide has also been observed, with North Dakota experiencing a nearly 28% reduction in high school seniors completing the applications.

In light of these challenges, North Dakota institutions are extending their support to students and families by offering additional assistance with FAFSA applications.

Mark Hagerott, chancellor of the North Dakota University System, announced flexibility in enrollment deadlines for some colleges and universities due to delayed FAFSA submissions.

While obstacles persist, students are urged to submit their FAFSA applications promptly as financial aid availability is limited for each school year.

The North Dakota State Grant, a need-based financial aid program, utilizes FAFSA data and has finite funds available for disbursement. Timely completion of the FAFSA is crucial to secure financial assistance for eligible students.
