First Lady tours North Carolina to talk about the state’s dual enrollment program

First Lady Dr. Jill Biden expressed that North Carolina excels in offering opportunities for students to earn college credit and engage with careers while still in high school.

Dr. Biden’s trip to North Carolina on April 15 centered around discussions on innovative learning initiatives, such as dual enrollment, that are narrowing the gap between education and professional fields.

The visit was part of President Biden’s Investing in America Tour.

In his 2025 fiscal year budget request, the president earmarked $7.2 billion to create or expand programs enabling students to obtain postsecondary credits through career-aligned dual enrollment while in high school.

As per a statement from the Office of the First Lady, “The funds would be provided as matching dollars to states to initiate or expand efforts to spur greater enrollment in dual enrollment programs.”

During the visit to North Carolina, the First Lady stopped at Pitt Community College to interact with educators and students and understand the college’s dual enrollment endeavors. Subsequently, Dr. Biden toured Pitt’s biotechnology lab and automotive bay, engaging with high school students pursuing postsecondary credentials.
