Education Experts Sound the Alarm on Plummeting Math Scores in America

The statistics are disheartening. As per the most recent international PISA report, the math scores of American students decreased by 13 points from 2018 to 2022, which is equivalent to two-thirds of a year of learning.

Only 7% of students in the United States are proficient in advanced math, and a student’s socioeconomic status does not guarantee higher performance.

These unsatisfactory figures will be examined during the upcoming online panel hosted by the Progressive Policy Institute and The 74 on Thursday at 1 p.m. ET. Panelists will provide perspective on the PISA results and offer solutions to address this alarming situation.

The panel will feature Dr. Peggy G. Carr, the Commissioner of the National Center for Education Statistics at the U.S. Department of Education, Andreas Schleicher, the Director of the Directorate of Education and Skills at the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, and Jonathan A. Supovitz, a professor at the Graduate School of Education at the University of Pennsylvania.
