STARKVILLE, Miss.—Mississippi State University is presenting a new look for the on-campus Subway restaurant and introducing a fresh Bento Sushi joint.
These eateries are located in the recently remodeled area that was previously occupied by the University Florist and are part of a broader project that includes a significant overhaul of Perry Cafeteria. While the Subway and Bento Sushi are commencing operations just in time for the start of the 2024-25 academic year, Perry is set to be back in service in fall 2025. Subway will be ready to serve customers starting Saturday [Aug. 10], with Bento Sushi following suit on Sunday [Aug. 11].
MSU President Mark E. Keenum and Vice President for Student Affairs Regina Hyatt shared some words during a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday [Aug. 9]. Keenum highlighted the importance of providing top-notch dining choices on campus to support students as they engage in their academic pursuits.
“Ensuring our students are well-nourished is a key responsibility, and we aim to offer exceptional, healthy food options as they dedicate their efforts to academic endeavors and future aspirations,” Keenum remarked, underscoring that campus enhancements symbolize progress and continuous enhancements.
Both Keenum and Hyatt took the opportunity to express gratitude to Aramark, the university’s food services provider overseeing MSU Dining Services.
“This event marks the beginning of a series of exciting dining program upgrades that our students have been requesting for several years,” Hyatt noted. “We are thrilled to inaugurate this new chapter today, and I wish to extend our appreciation to Aramark for their commitment to our dining program and their collaboration.”
While Perry Cafeteria remains shuttered for the upcoming academic session, additional food trucks will be deployed to cater to the campus dining needs, along with established campus dining spots like the Fresh Food Co. Apart from that, Umble Coffee, a local business, will be launching its second outpost at the campus Barnes & Noble on Aug. 12.
