Director of Bands Elva Kaye Lance expressed excitement about the opportunities that membership in the Maroon Band offers students. She stated, “Membership in the Maroon Band gives students opportunities for involvement in campus activities that will enrich their overall campus experience while making lifelong friends. The audition process gives us time to visit with the students and their families and help them learn more about our program and what’s available to them. This time of year is always exciting as we welcome new members into our Maroon Band family.”

Appointments for auditions on weekdays and select Saturdays are available for brass, woodwind, and percussion instrument auditions at MSU. Drumline auditions will be done virtually, with a deadline of May 3 to submit materials. More information and the drumline packet can be found at https://www.msuband.msstate.edu/news/2024/01/2024-msu-drumline-audition-packet-now-available.

Online auditions will be held for color guard and feature twirlers. Details for these auditions will be announced at https://www.msuband.msstate.edu/join.

Christian Thornton, a senior band member and business administration major from Robertsdale, Alabama, shared his favorite quality of the Famous Maroon Band. He said, “One of my favorite qualities of the Famous Maroon Band is the sense of family that permeates throughout the organization and beyond. From our sections, alumni and staff members to our friends in administration and Athletics, there are always friendly faces and words of encouragement to be found. This creates an environment of excellence and camaraderie that makes me proud to support Mississippi State University and call myself a member of the Famous Maroon Band.”
