MSU Wind Ensemble and Concert Bands Set to Perform Spring Concerts Next Week

STARKVILLE, Miss.—The Wind Ensemble and Campus, Concert, and Symphonic Bands of Mississippi State University will be holding concerts on the MSU campus on April 9 and 14.

The Wind Ensemble will conclude its concert series with a variety of wind band music on April 9 at 7:30 p.m. in Lee Hall’s Bettersworth Auditorium. The program will feature compositions by Percy Grainger and von Suppe, as well as pieces by Malcolm Arnold and Ron Nelson. Contemporary works by Aaron Perrine and Julie Giroux will also be part of the performance. The concert will be conducted by Director of Bands Elva Kaye Lance.

In addition, the Campus, Concert, and Symphonic Bands of MSU will perform on April 14 at 2 p.m. at Lee Hall’s Bettersworth Auditorium. The bands, made up of students from various majors at MSU, will present a diverse selection of wind music, including orchestral transcriptions and contemporary pieces. The concert will feature compositions by Alfred Reed, Ron Nelson, Edward Elgar, JaRod Hall, Julie Giroux, and John Barnes Chance. Amy Catron, assistant teaching professor of cello, will be a featured soloist with the concert band. The performance will be conducted by Craig Aarhus and Cliff Taylor, associate directors of the Maroon Band.
