Improving a Challenging Hiring Procedure

On January 3, 2024, my elementary school finally achieved full staffing for the current school year. Coincidentally, this day aligned with the publication of an Newsday article by Newsday ranking my district among the top 10 districts with high teacher turnover on Long Island. The initial four months of the year saw a shift in focus from curriculum leadership, supervision, and professional development to the challenging task of hiring and retaining educators due to an unexpected wave of resignations.
